ProVia Metal Shingles in Slate, Shake, and Barrel Tile

ProVia Barrel Tile Metal Roofing

ProVia barrel tile metal roofing delivers the look of a Spanish clay tile roof in 26-gauge steel. Barrel tile, Spanish tile, and Spanish clay tile all describe the same cascading, half-round profile, and homeowners use the three names interchangeably. Distinctive Metal Roofing installs ProVia barrel tile roofing in Cleveland, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, giving homeowners the Mediterranean look without the weight, breakage, and cost that comes with real clay.

Why Barrel Tile Carries an Impressive Wind Rating

Barrel tile metal roofing is rated for 130 mph winds, while ProVia slate and shake panels are rated for 180 mph. The difference is the shape of the panel. The raised barrel profile gives wind more opportunity to get underneath and around the panel and generate uplift, where a flatter slate or shake panel sits tighter to the deck. A 130-mph uplift rating is still a very strong rating for a residential roof in this region, and it covers the wind speeds a home in northeast Ohio or western Pennsylvania is realistically going to endure.

Metal Barrel Tile Compared to Spanish Clay Tile

Metal barrel tile is the practical alternative to a Spanish clay tile roof. Clay looks the part, but its weight requires structural reinforcement on many homes, it breaks under hail and foot traffic, and it costs more to install and to repair.

Barrel Tile Roofing and Winter Weather

The smooth, coated surface of a metal Spanish tile roof releases snow the way most metal roofing does, rather than holding it through repeated thaw/freeze cycles. Where snow needs to be held back over an entryway, a walkway, or a driveway, a snow retention system keeps it on the roof so it melts off gradually instead of releasing all at once.

ProVia Barrel Tile Colors

Spanish tile metal roofing from ProVia comes in four colors: terracotta, mocha, auburn, and jade. Coordinating solid and decorative trim colors are available in each.

When Buying a Metal Roof, Installation Experience Is Key

The decision to re-roof your home is a significant step and choosing the right product and metal roofing contractor are critical components in that process. When selecting a contractor, the roof complexity and design are major considerations in determining the right metal roofing system. Features such as valleys, dormers, skylights, chimneys, or multiple rooflines add to the installation’s complexity and require precise craftsmanship to maintain watertight integrity.

A complex roof isn’t a problem — it just calls for experienced metal roofing professionals who understand how to properly measure, fabricate, and install panels or shingles around intricate details.
